I recently attended a Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) event at my church. This is a group I have refused to join because, dang it, I don\u2019t consider myself a senior. Membership starts at age sixty, an age I\u2019ve already passed, but it also goes up to one hundred, an age I pray I never reach. I\u2019m more active than most seniors and I enjoy spending time with all ages. Whether it\u2019s for Sunday School, small group, or lunch with my buds, I enjoy a good mix of people. I don\u2019t want to hear that I\u2019m supposed to hang out with only certain ages or generations. That\u2019s pigeon-holing and I\u2019m against it.<\/p>\n
Anyway, I was invited to the meeting to share a personal experience as part of their program. I talked with some mighty nice people there\u2014enjoyed the meal and the company. Even enjoyed speaking in front of the group.<\/p>\n
I was telling one older gentleman why I had not officially joined the group and he observed that at least I did not suffer from Furniture Disease, something his wife talks about.<\/p>\n
\u201cFurniture Disease?\u201d I asked. \u201cWhat is that?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s when your chest goes in your drawers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
It took me a second, but then I got it: a reference to the effect of gravity on a woman\u2019s chest. What a hoot!<\/p>\n
Alrighty, then. Furniture Disease. That was an unexpected topic of conversation for a church luncheon. And it certainly was funny.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s good to see that the older generation hasn\u2019t lost its sense of humor. If they can all make me laugh the way that man did, maybe I should consider hanging out with them more often.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
